News Corp's Star TV boosts UK profile with branded event

LONDON - News Corporation's Asian TV brand Star is staging a £12 per ticket consumer event in London to raise its profile in the UK, where its pay-TV channels are available on Sky and Virgin Media.

The ticket price will cover the cost of the September 12 event, which will be staged at London's Old Billingsgate Market and is designed to create a buzz for Star's channels among the UK's South Asian community.

Called 'Simply Star' the event will dedicate different zones of the venue to the four different Star channels available in the UK: Star Plus, Star One, Star Gold and Star News.

Five thousand tickets will be sold, with the choice of attending a morning or an evening event.

Star celebrities booked to appear include news and sports presenter Siddarth Sharma and two actresses from popular drama series 'Bidaai', Sara Khan and Parul Chauhan.

The event will also be attended by James Murdoch, heir-apparent to the Murdoch media empire and chief executive of News Corp in Europe and Asia since December 2007.

Murdoch also ran Star TV in Asia from 2000 to 2003, when he became chief executive of BSkyB.
