New women's social network offers targeted digital marketing

LONDON - Online community iVillage has unveiled the first UK women's social network, creating defined user groups for targeted ads.

The new iVillage Connect platform will offer enhanced tools to its community of 3.5 million women.

Users of the new iVillage Connect will be able to create profiles, build groups, post blogs, upload photos and invite friends and family to join. Groups will be created for people interested in areas such as fashion, television soaps, motherhood and cookery.

iVillage Connect will encourage groups of users with shared interests. Personal and health groups will offer support on issues such as illness and infertility. Users can run a keyword search to find members, blog postings and groups linked to certain topics.

Kirstin Watson, head of community for iVillage.co.uk, said: “iVillage has always been about women coming together to share experiences and information. Community and user generated content is central to our proposition. The new tools will enhance our users’ experience, giving them the opportunity to express themselves and share information and advice more easily than before."

iVillage is a women's web site with 3.5 million monthly readers and 35 million monthly page views. It has an existing active community through its 250 message boards, where women share real-life experiences and advice. It is owned by a division of NBC Universal.
