The site aims to bridge the gap between academic research on crowd management and practical advice for event organisers.

Founder of the Crowd Behaviour Network, Rose Challenger, who is an organisational psychologist at Leeds University Business School, said the site provides a forum for researchers and professionals to share knowledge and expertise.

"Ultimately, its goal is to enhance crowd safety and event success," she said.

With 50 days to go until the London Olympics, the network has outlined key questions that Olympic organisers should be considering. These include whether training has been given to all staff including temporary stewards, and whether consideration has been given to the management of Olympic and non-Olympic crowds around the city and the possible conflict between the two.

The site is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
