The website, named Outnet, will launch in April and aims to reproduce the experience of designer outlet villages online, with year-round sale prices.

Discount stores are benefiting from the recession as consumers are shopping around for bargains more and coming to expect product discounts as retailers increase their sale activity.

TK Maxx shot from 24th to 4th in a Verdict poll of Britain's favourite stores and the designer sale website Brand Alley, which launched last January, already has 600,000 members.

Online shopping has continued to grow, despite tough retail conditions on the high street. Data from Google shows that an increasing number of people are searching online for discounted products, money saving ideas, vouchers and safe savings.
