NatWest eyes digital banking growth

Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) Group is plotting a fresh digital strategy for NatWest, as it looks to improve online brand consideration and take-up of its digital banking services.

The majority state-owned bank's procurement division has contacted several agencies with a view to working on NatWest's digital marketing. It wants agency help to gain more customers online.
Glue Isobar currently handles digital marketing for both the RBS and NatWest brands.

NatWest's recent ad campaigns, created by M&C Saatchi, have centred on its 14-point 'Customer Charter' service pledge, including a vow to serve the 'majority' of customers within five minutes.

In 2009 the group was ordered to divest itself of its RBS branches in England and NatWest branches in Scotland following a European Commission competition report. This increases the potential for the use of differing strategies across its retail banking businesses.

An RBS spokeswoman said: 'We are doing nothing outside the normal course of business. From time to time we seek support on individual projects.'
