Cosmopolitan owner The National Magazine Company has been without a permanent publisher for its monthly glossy since the departure of Justine Southall in December.
Ahead of Southall's departure it hired Rebecca Miskin as a digital media and product development consultant to expand the Cosmopolitan brand across all platforms in the UK.
Dolphin will take over from Miskin at a yet to be confirmed date, and Miskin will then move to a new role advising the company on cross-platform activities and brand development.
According to a Bauer spokeswoman Dolphin left the company yesterday.
Dolphin has been at Grazia since March 2010, when she was hired to replace Abby Carvosso, who had moved to the newly created role of head of magazines.
At Associated Newspapers for nine years from 2001, Dolphin was reponsible for the launch of the Daily Mail's men's lifestyle magazine Live.
Arnaud de Puyfontaine, chief executive of the National Magazine Company and executive vice president of Hearst Magazines International, said: "Not only is Ella highly respected in the media industry, but she has pushed the boundaries within a large newspaper business and used her experience and entrepreneurial approach to broaden the appeal of Grazia."
Cosmopolitan's average issue circulation during the July to December 2010 period was 400,575 copies, down 0.3% period on period and 6.9% year on year.
