Frith, who played a key role in the rise of Bauer's Heat magazine and went on to edit Time Out, will be responsible for further improving the editorial quality of Bauer Media's portfolio of lifestyle magazines and digital brands.
Bauer Media chief executive Paul Keenan said of Frith, who resigned as editor-in-chief of Heat in 2008: "He did amazing work at Emap [Bauer’s predecessor]. We’ve kept in touch and I’ve been looking for an opportunity to re-engage him when the time is right.
"It’s a role of developing, mentoring, supporting, coaching, looking at new projects and new products and supporting editors on specific evolutions that they are working on."
Carvosso will take responsibility for the delivery of lifestyle magazines and Bauer's portfolio of parenting, music, men's and film brands.
She will also drive the advertising sales operation across all Bauer's London lifestyle titles and identify and drive new product and revenue opportunities across all platforms.
"Abby is a very very experienced publisher," Keenan said. "She’s been focusing most recently on our commercial offer and made strong progress."
"This gives her a critical role in developing the company for the future."
Carvosso’s promotion coincides with the departures of Jo Morrell, managing director of lifestyle, and Sophie Wybrew-Bond, managing director of Heat, Closer and Empire.
Morrell’s remit covered Grazia, Yours, Top Santé and parenting titles Mother & Baby and Pregancy & Birth. Carvosso will oversee Grazia while Yours and the parenting titles will be handled by Kirsten Price, who report to Carvosso.
Morrell, who is pregnant with her third child, left last week, and Wybrew-Bond is leaving at the end of the year to work as a consultant.
Heat, Closer and Top Santé will be overseen by Nicky Holt, previously publisher of Closer, who will report to Bauer Media chief executive Paul Keenan. Empire will be overseen by Rimi Atwal, the publisher of Bauer’s music portfolio.
Bauer will shortly start a search for a sales director to lead the advertising operation reporting to Carvosso.
Keenan said Bauer Access, the cross-platform sales team, would not be affected by Carvosso’s promotion.
