The Nationwide Mercury Prize is regarded as one of the music industry's most prestigious awards and provides a snapshot of the year in UK music. The 2006 shortlist will be chosen from albums released by British and Irish artists.
The website contains news and information on previous prize winners, including last year's winner Antony and the Johnsons, as well as other shortlisted artists including the Kaiser Chiefs and KT Tunstall.
It also contains videos, a music quiz and an RSS news feed, which allows users to receive updates about the prize. Users can also register as members to view more information in a members only area.
Peter Rope, creative director of ArtScience, said: "The website is a hub for the sung and the unsung heroes of British and Irish music. It is really essential now for sites to both generate traffic and build a genuine community and with this in mind we have built into the framework opportunities to view videos, an RSS feed for up-to-the-minute news and also a members only area. There's a lot of fantastic content on the site for music fans everywhere."
The Nationwide Mercury Prize winner will be announced on September 5.
