The album is set to become most downloaded in history, as well as being recorded more quickly than any other. It features tracks from bands including Coldplay and Kaiser Chiefs, and was recorded to raise money to help children who are affected by conflict.
The album is being hosted on the website , and starting today [Tuesday] is also available from other download music stores. Between September 9, when it was released, and September 13, 90,000 tracks from the album had been downloaded -- at its peak, a sale was going through every half second and at one point the War Child site crashed from the weight of traffic.
'Help: A Day in the Life' also marks the first time an album has been offered all the formats, so it can be played on any computer or MP3 player.
The 22 artists who contributed tracks began recording on September 8, ahead of the album's release at 6.10pm on September 9.
Other artists to feature on the album include Antony Hegarty from Mercury Prize-winning Antony and the Johnsons, who duets with Boy George on John Lennon's 'Happy Xmas, War is Over'.
Also appearing are Gorillaz, Damien Rice, The Magic Numbers and Manic Street Preachers. Radiohead, who contributed a new track called 'I Want None of it', have proven the most downloaded act so far.
