MySpace Music rolls out star-studded ad campaign

LOS ANGELES - Musicians Moby, Jenny Lewis and Kings of Leon are set to appear in a series of print advertisements for the MySpace Music web platform, which launched last month.

The campaign highlights the artists' personal playlists, featuring songs that have influenced their musical career. The advertisements feature stark images of the artists, with their hand-written playlists and doodles.

Myspace launched MySpace Music last month to rival iTunes. It allows users to stream free music from the thousands of artists featured on the website, purchase mp3s and create their own playlists.

The ad starring American DJ Moby features his "New York playlist", with the tracks:

  • Staring at the Sun - TV on the Radio
  • New York Cares - Interpol
  • New York - Sex Pistols
  • Rhapsody in Blue - George Gershwin
  • New York - Cat Power
  • Trash - New York Dolls
  • New York City - John Lennon

Jenny Lewis, singer-songwriter and lead singer of band Rilo Kiley, highlights "Music that my friends wrote" in her ad:

  • All You've Got To Do is Fall in Love - Benji Hughes
  • All Night Radio - Sky Bicycle
  • We're All Stuck Out in the Desert - Jonathan Rice
  • Lock and Key - Whispertown 2000
  • Change is Hard - She and Him

And Caleb Followill, from southern rockers Kings of Leon, has provided a playlist of "Songs to come down to" featuring:

  • Stars and Sons - Broken Social Scene
  • We Own the Sky - M83
  • Geraldine - Glasvegas
  • All You Do Is Talk - BRMC
  • Family Tree - TV on the Radio
