Redmayne, currently head of commercial partnerships at Sky, helped to launch MyKindaPlace in 2000, along with several other sites.
He will take up his post on 3 March, reporting to Victoria Barnsley, chief executive and publisher.
Following the sale of MyKindaPlace to Sky in 2006, Redmayne continued to run the portal until last September when he moved across to Sky full-time as head of commercial partnerships for its new online arm.
In his new role at the News Corp-owned publisher, Redmayne will be responsible for enhancing the company's digital income by spreading HarperCollins content across multiple platforms.
