MTV redesigns website as channel portal

LONDON - MTV Networks UK has repositioned the MTV website as a general music and entertainment portal for 16- to 34-year-olds.

The redesigned went live on Friday January 24 and encompasses all the MTV channels, prior to this each channel had its own individual site.

The homepage now showcases MTV's range of broadcast and online programming and channels, such as MTV Base, and provides entertainment news.

According to MTV, the site grew in popularity during 2007, especially during the latter six months when it put more content online, including games related to programmes such as 'Totally Jodie Marsh'.

Page impressions for December 2007 were up 75% year on year, and the average time people spent on the site in 2007 was up by half on 2006.

Philip O'Ferrall, vice-president of digital media at MTV Networks UK & Ireland, said: "We are very proud of the turnaround at mtv.co.uk, the 360 degree programming and enhanced music services have proved a great hit with the audience."

More enhancements are being planned for 2008.
