Bierer will be tasked with creating content for digital media platforms including online, mobile, broadband and interactive TV and in collaboration with MTV's US and international development teams.
He is also charged with managing international digital media partners across brands including VH1, Nickelodeon and Game One.
Based in New York, Bierer will report to Sahar Elhabashi, executive vice-president of strategy and digital media at MTVNI.
Bierer has worked for MTVNI for seven years, most recently in the post of senior vice-president of strategy, business development and research, where he launched MTV into the digital TV market in the UK, Japan, Korea and Russia.
Elhabashi said: "Gideon is a tremendously talented executive who has a keen understanding of the international television and digital media sectors.
"This newly created position reflects the growing importance of digital media for MTVNI as we continue to develop compelling content for audiences across a variety of platforms, including mobile, broadband and interactive TV."
MTV UK has also announced a new slate of programmes including a UK version of the hit US series 'Pimp my Ride', which featured rap star Xzibit giving decrepit cars a makeover so they look and sound like rappers cars with a huge sound system, elaborate paintwork and, in some cases, chandeliers. Instead of the glamorous LA landscapes, the new UK series will be filmed within the M25.
'Hip Hop Candy' follows four young women as they try to forge careers as dancers/models in R&B and hip-hop videos.
Plus, a third instalment of 'Dirty Sanchez' sees the unruly Welsh boys leave the valleys for a trip around Europe to stretch the boundaries of pain on their stunt-based show.
