Mirror to release first ABCe figures Thursday

LONDON - Mirror Group is to release its first Audit Bureau of Circulation Electronic figures tomorrow, for sites including Mirror.co.uk, amid speculation that the percentage of its UK users will be higher than any of its rivals.

The group joins the , , , and the in reporting its audited internet traffic figures.

The results will cover Mirror group's traffic during March for its national newspaper websites -- , and , as well as its specialist sites including .

Mirror Group, the division of Trinity Mirror that publishes the red top, revealed that its web publishing strategy is to focus on maximising its UK audience and it is thought that tomorrow's figures will show that the group's percentage of UK users is the highest out of its competitors.

However, the group said that although it believes ABCe is a meaningful metric, it still holds reservations about the spread of published data.

Paul Hood, Mirror Group's head of digital, said: "While we of course agree that unique users and geography are key metrics, page impressions, in our view, are not a meaningful measure of engagement as they are extensively manipulated by some sites.

"Maximising user engagement remains a key goal for Mirror Group Digital, and we will continue to work with advertisers and trade bodies like the ABCe, AOP and IAB to find the most useful metrics."
