Mirror Group loses ad sales director Dove after just a year in the job

LONDON - Mirror Group Newspapers has parted company with its advertising sales director Clare Dove, who has resigned and been replaced by deputy ad director Dominic Carter with immediate effect.

The job covers the advertising sales operations of the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror and The People under Trinity Mirror's managing director of national newspapers Ellis Watson.

Carter had been acting as ad director during Dove's recent sick leave. A Trinity Mirror spokesman would not comment on whether her sick leave was connected to her decision to resign, but said that Dove had decided to leave to pursue other opportunities.

Dove joined Trinity Mirror in January 2004 as chief executive's Sly Bailey's first senior hiring from her former company IPC Media. Dove was group advertising director of IPC Southbank, publisher of Marie Claire and In Style.

Watson said: "Dominic is an immensely talented newspaper executive, who enjoys great respect both within the company and throughout the industry."

Carter has more than 14 years' experience in newspapers, more than four of them with MGN. Prior to that he worked at Trinity Mirror rival News International.

A business studies graduate, Carter originally joined MGN in 2000 as head of client services and became display advertising director in 2002. He was promoted to deputy director of advertising in April 2004.

After a stint with News International in Australia, Carter set up the sponsorship sales division for Times Newspapers before moving on to MGN.

Carter said: "I am delighted to have been given this opportunity to lead what I believe is the best ad sales team in Fleet Street."
