Microsoft backs GCap downloads in year-long sponsorship deal

LONDON - Microsoft has signed a £750,000 deal to sponsor GCap Media's radio music-download service for the next 12 months as it prepares for rapid expansion.

The Hear It, Buy It, Burn It service, which originated on GWR before its merger with Capital and uses Microsoft technology, will now be extended to GCap Media's flagship stations, including 95.8 Capital FM and Xfm.

Microsoft Windows XP will sponsor live streaming media via an audio message on GCap's and sites.

Listeners can legally download the song they are listening to and search 500,000 tracks in the OD2 catalogue, which covers labels including Warner, BMG and EMI.
