The new campaign asks people if they would be able to nurse a loved one through heart disease by themselves, and aims to raise 拢1m to pay for 30 new specialist nurses who help up to 10,000 heart patients a year.
A dedicated , developed by the BHF online team, has been launched, featuring real-life stories about patients who are being supported by the BHF Heart Nurses and what a day in the life of the nurses is like. It also lets people design a virtual love note and send anonymous e-Valentine messages.
Bertrand Bosredon, online manager at BHF, said: "We wanted to create an interactive version of the love notes, which have been successful in our shops for several years. The best ones will be published on the website, but we encourage our visitors to print their love note and stick it in the window of their nearest BHF shop."
The microsite also offers the opportunity to give to the appeal via a virtual collection tin, and details other ways to support it, such as entering a prize draw to win a holiday to Australia.
There are currently 180 BHF Heart Nurses, providing care, reassurance and advice to more than 50,000 patients, but the BHS says these patients represent the tip of the iceberg and that thousands more live without adequate care or support.
It says that if it meets its 拢1m target, it can help as many as 10,000 more heart patients in the UK.
