LONDON - Discount coach service Megabus has launched a multiplayer online racing game to promote its popular Glasgow to London and Leeds to Portsmouth routes.

The multiplayer game, a first for digital agency TAMBA, challenges players to take on their friends by creating an online room where others can join a motorway bus race.

Called Mega Ride, the game encourages players to collect passengers at regular bus stops, avoiding road obstacles and picking up Megabus tickets along the way.

At the end of each game scores can be entered on to a leaderboard, and players achieve a driver status based on their accuracy.

Users are invited to register their details with the chance to win a £75 gift voucher for buyagift.com. Links to £1 Megabus tickets for those two routes are also presented at the end of the game.

Kay Hammond, chief executive of TAMBA, said the multiplayer aspect of Mega Ride is sure to generate a strong viral response as users invite others to join via email.

Jodine Milne, marketing manager at Megabus, said: "Digital activity is extremely important for Megabus, as the vast majority of tickets are purchased online."
