MediaCom motors ahead in Discovery quiz
The hosts of Discovery's pub quiz for media agencies were Mike Brewer from Discovery's Wheeler Dealers and Johnny Smith from Fifth Gear, who spurred on the teams to run up "the biggest bar tab Discovery has seen for a long time".
Despite - or perhaps inspired by - the record number of shandies, MediaCom (pictured above) won the top prize of a meal for all at a Michelin-starred restaurant, followed by Zenith in second place and Starcom in third.
Commiserations, however, to Sean Beaven, broadcast account manager at MPG, who was too young at just 23 to enter the competition to win a Supercar Club Membership worth over £15,000. So there is a drawback to being under 25 after all...
Shit hits the fan following Indy sale
Readers of a sensitive disposition should look away now, to avoid the tale of an unsavoury protest at Alexander Lebedev's acquisition of The Independent.
One employee was so irate the paper is now in the hands of a former KGB spy that on the day the sale went through, they decided to - in the words of one source - "lay a cable" in a busy thoroughfare of Northcliffe House.
The offending person, thought to be a journalist on The Independent, was swiftly removed from the building, as was the statement excrement.
Sadly for one visitor to The Independent and Daily Mail HQ however, the mess was not cleaned up in time to prevent them stepping in it...
Chris Lauder is lauded for muscleman challenge
Chris Lauder, account manager at ShortList, has found fame after winning the magazine's Lucozade Sport performance challenge, training for 12 weeks to transform his body from Mr Average to Mr Universe (pictured below).
The hardest part, says Lauder, was cutting back on client lunches - not to mention getting up at 6am for 10 weeks and the prolonged lack of a social life.
But all his hard work has paid off, with strangers adding him as a friend on Facebook and people approaching him in his local gym to ask for training tips.
Even the girls on Stylist have suddenly become "more approachable", reports Lauder - although he is keen to stress he is "very happily taken". Sorry ladies.
Media's power trio lead by example
To the Ivy Club for the launch of Marie Claire's power-themed May issue, attended by glamorous faces including PM's wife Sarah Brown, actress Naomie Harris and singer Dionne Bromfield (pictured below, right with Trish Halpin, editor-in-chief of Marie Claire and Brown).
The party also launched the magazine's Inspire & Mentor campaign in association with The Prince's Trust, which offers Marie Claire readers the chance to be mentored by 17 of the most influential women in Britain.
Joining the likes of interior designer Kelly Hoppen are the media industry's Claudine Collins, joint head of investment at MediaCom; Dawn Airey, chief executive of Five; and former Bebo chief executive Joanna Shields.
The power trio will mentor aspiring entrepreneurs from the summer - although it is unclear whether the apprentices will join Airey on her infamous five-day-a-week Ivy lunches...
Absolute Radio says 'Come Drink With Me'
Meanwhile, Absolute Radio took up residence in the Albert Hall to watch The Who's original members Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend and special guests play Quadrophenia for the first time in 13 years.
Split between two boxes were Carat's head of sponsorship David Peters, Absolute's chief executive Donnach O'Driscoll, former 11 o'Clock Show presenter Iain Lee, John Whittingdale MP and London 2012 chair Lord Coe.
Between songs, Absolute's commercial director Chris Goldson revealed Absolute has been split into four ‘houses' - anteaters, badgers, monkeys and chipmunks - and challenged to win the most 'house points' by the end of the year.
"It's much fun," Goldson, head of the anteaters, told Bitch. "Especially when you are winning." The next challenge is 'Donnach Does Drinks' - a Come Dine With Me-style attempt to put on the best night out, which Goldson's team will kick off next Thursday (15 April). Watch this space to see what carnage ensues...
