McGee, who was head of client services at Profero before heading up the Profero-owned production agency Inventor, will be joining MEC Interaction in August.
He will be responsible for heading up the commercial team, speaking to media owners and technological parties. He will also have a specific remit in new technology.
McGee will report to MEC Interaction managing director Jeff Hyams.
Seperately, MEC Interaction has hired Lloyds TSB's Ryan Murdoch to take on the role of analytics director. Prior to joining Lloyds, Murdoch worked for Zed Media.
Last week, the WPP Group announced it had formed the new global marketing unit MEC Interaction as part of media planning and buying group Mediaedge:cia.
It will be headed by Rob Norman, chairman of Mediaedge:cia UK and CEO of Outrider Worldwide, and unites the online media buying and planning services of the Digital Edge, Outrider's search marketing services and Wunderman Media's direct response media planning and buying unit.
Working with Norman, who takes the role of worldwide chief executive officer of MEC Interactive, will be Alan Schanzer, formerly managing partner of the Digital Edge, and Sarah Hammel, who was formerly finance director of Wunderman Media. Schanzer takes the title of managing partner, while Hammel will be senior partner.
Charles Courtier, executive chairman of Mediaedge:cia, said: "Whether the consumer response is through a toll-free number, a website, text messaging, downloaded content or snail mail, the new MEC Interaction has the ability to do it all for clients."
Seperately, Mediaedge:cia is considering changing its name to MEC.
