Maxim plans to expand readership with Mobizine launch

LONDON - Men's lifestyle magazine Maxim will launch a Mobizine in a plan to extend their readership and attract new readers.

Maxim, which is published by Dennis Publishing, has teamed up with Refresh Mobile to develop the Mobizine edition, which allows its 186,000 readers to view a "snack-sized" version of the magazine on their mobile phones.

The Maxim Mobizine has a rich Java-downloaded Flash format and contains sections including Maxim Girls, Maxim TV, Reviews and Jokes. The Mobizine also contains links to the Maxim Wap site in addition to downloadable pictures, videos and magazine subscriptions.

Matt Jerwood, head of mobile at Dennis Publishing, said: "Our readers are early adopters of technology and we predict this will prove a popular edition to our 21st Century publishing portfolio."

Scott Beaumont, CEO of Refresh Mobile, said: "Mobizine users will be very familiar with the Maxim brand and its specific composition of content will appeal to a large section of new and existing users. The fact that big publishing houses like Dennis Publishing are signing up to the Mobizines format establishes the new technology and builds foundations for continuing success."

According to Mark Squires, head of communications at Nokia UK, "Maxim's move into Mobizine technology shows that publishers are aware that the landscape of content consumption is changing."
