According to Hitwise, the official site for 'Matrix Reloaded' took 7% of all UK traffic for internet visits in the "Entertainment - Movies" category, and saw a rise in visitor numbers of 400% over the last three-and-a-half weeks.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, 57% of visitors to the site were male, with 35% of them living in London and the South East. , the website for the computer game based on the film, was the second most popular destination for people leaving the 'Matrix' site.
The game launched last week on multiconsole platforms including the Xbox and PlayStation2. Like the movie, the game allows players to dodge bullets, leap from buildings and run up walls.
'Matrix Reloaded', starring Keanu Reeves, launched this week in the UK, and looks set to play to packed cinemas over the weekend, despite mixed reviews. Reports say that the film, which examines the premise that the world as we know it is a computer-generated illusion, contains jokes to appeal to computer geeks.
'Maxtrix Reloaded' is to be followed later this year by the third movie in the trilogy, 'Matrix Revolution'.
Hitwise said that in the "Entertainment - Movies" category, , the argument-solving movie reference site, remains number one. , the website for Stelios Haji-Ioannou's latest EasyGroup venture, is at number 41 on the list of most-visited sites. The first Easycinema launches today in Milton Keynes -- although it will not be screening 'Matrix Reloaded'.
