Market Location unveils 'unique' B2B database

B2B data provider Market Location has launched a file that aims to compete with those of market leaders Thomson Directories, D&B and Experian.

The database contains 2.3m records and 4m contact names. The data comes from The Data Resource Corporation, a credit reference company owned by Paul Spinks, one of Market Location's new part-owners, following a management buy-out from parent company Wegener DM last year.

Market Location has enriched the file and claims its universe is the "B2B equivalent of the Electoral Roll". The credit scoring information provided by Spinks specialised in the finance and leasing sector, and the new file retains that specialisation.

Market Location claims its key point of difference is how and when files are updated and claims an update rate of 500,000 per month, with the entire file updated every 17 months.

Based on analysis of adverse indicators, such as late payment and County Court judgements, the company will update records of businesses in the same geographical area and in the same business sector as a company with financial problems, on the premise that their sector or area may be affected as a result.

"I saw a unique way of maintaining a database that would work in the DM arena," said Steve Cook, managing director of Market Location.

The company's existing clients, including Microsoft, Staples UK and Dell, will use the new database.
