Market Location launches own B2B data universe

LONDON - Market Location has launched a new business-to-business database, which will be maintained using an innovative approach that means the whole file is updated every 17 months.

Consisting of 2.3m site-based records and 4m contact names, the database has been established following the management buyout of the company from Wegener DM last year.

One of the company's new owners, Paul Spinks, also owns a credit reference company called The Data Resource Corporation. DRC's credit scoring database has been licensed to Market Location.

This allows Market Location to pay particular attention to businesses and sectors where the likelihood of change or failure is higher, by analysing indicators such as CCJs and changes in payment trends. It prioritises call lists for its telephone and field researchers accordingly.

Steve Cook, managing director of Market Location, said: "We have found that over a five-year period, approximately 600,000 businesses see no primary changes and therefore need to be contacted at less regular intervals than businesses in a higher risk sector.

"To increase the accuracy of our data further, we also incentivise our tele-researchers for spotting out-of-date data that have been placed in their call lists."

Cook, who led the company before its buyout, and Patrick Bradshaw, formerly business development manager at Thomson Directories, each own 30% of Market Location to Spinks' 40%.
