Five hundred amateur and professional magicians from British Ring No 25, the largest of the 300 groups that make up the IBM, are expected to attend. They will entertain, instruct and compete at the convention, which runs from 24-28 September 2014.
As well as an exhibition of around 25 dealers of magical items, the event will include a gala dinner at the Royal Bath Hotel and a ladies day outing to Beaulieu in Hampshire.
Brian Miller, joint convention organiser, said Bournemouth’s facilities and cost competitiveness were key considerations in its selection, and southern locations traditionally attracted more delegates.
"The Bournemouth Pavilion can meet all our requirements for lectures, shows and trade space for exhibitors," Miller added. "Also the 1,200 seat theatre allows us to reach out to the public with our two shows on Saturday 27 September."
The two public shows will feature CITV’s Richard Cadell and his puppet sidekick Sooty, as well as a 'Gala Show of International Magic and Variety' that evening.
Pat Coyne, director of venues for BH Live, which manages the Pavilion, said: "The Pavilion is expecting more than 500 delegates to attend this five-day event and it is anticipated that nearly £1m will be contributed to the local economic benefit through business tourism."
