As a writer, Barry was behind Reebok's man-eating sofa, Nestle's cinematic Double Cream ads, and the Heineken blackmail campaign featuring cheesy celebrities Peter Stringfellow, Paul Daniels and Vanessa Feltz.
He was also shortlisted at the end of 2002 for the creative team prize in the 北京赛车pk10 Best of the Best awards.
He joins CHI as a senior writer at the beginning of July, leaving art director Damon Collins, his fellow joint creative head at Lowe, in sole charge.
Explaining his decision to give up helming the Lowe creative department and return to a pure copywriting role, Barry said: "When I told my mum she said: 'Why are you moving, you're creative director, are you mad?'
"To be honest it's about good work. I've been doing this for eight months and it was just too hard a job. I dreaded getting out of bed in the morning. I wanted to be surrounded by bright people doing good work. A lot of the people I enjoyed working with at are now at CHI," he said.
He will be reunited with Charles Inge, who joined CHI in 2001 after 15 years at Lowe. Inge hired Barry to work at what was Lowe Lintas and partnered him with Collins.
According to Inge: "We are continuing to get London's best talent under one roof. Tony has created award winning work on so many brands from cat food to running shoes, newspapers to retail. We are very excited to have him come and work across our growing list of clients."
Last September, Barry was appointed along with Collins to take over the creative leadership at Lowe following Inge's departure. Barry has been at Lowe for three years, and was previously with Wieden+Kennedy London, which he joined at its inception and where he was deputy creative chief working on Nike.
Prior to Wieden+Kennedy, Barry was at M&C Saatchi, where he was best known for working on the "catisfaction" campaign for Whiskas.
Inge's appointment was a coup for CHI's founders, TBWA\London breakaway team Simon Clemmow and Johnny Hornby, as he has been one of the most prolific winners at the Cannes Advertising Festival.
Sarah Gold, CHI's group account director, also moved over from Lowe. As well as staff, CHI has inherited business from Lowe. When Lowe resigned its Heineken account because of a clash with Stella Artois, CHI picked up the 拢10m business.
CHI's big clients include Britvic, for the Tango Range, formerly with HHCL; Safeway Stores; The Telegraph Group; BT; Carphone Warehouse; and 拢30m worth of business picked up from British Gas earlier this month.
