From September, LoveFilm members will be able to watch a mix of MGM Classics and more contemporary titles online, and on internet-enabled devices through the LoveFilm Player.

Films to be made available from MGM’s Classics portfolio include multi-Oscar- winning films 'West Side Story' and 'The Apartment'.

Recent MGM releases that will be available on a transactional basis include 'Pink Panther', 'Valkyrie', 'The Taking of Pelham 123', 'Fame' and 'Hot Tub Time Machine'.

MGM has been a leading light in the film industry for more than 85 years and promises to significantly boost LoveFilm’s ‘Watch Online’ service.

Simon Calver, chief executive of LoveFilm, said: "With the digital revolution underway, our opportunity for growth is huge and the addition of MGM titles is a substantial development in enhancing our digital catalogue."

The MGM is the latest expansion by LoveFilm’s expansion strategy, and follows content deals with Warner Bros Entertainment, as well as deals with Samsung and Sony to offer the on-demand movies through their TV sets.
