The sites, planned for Hyde Park, Victoria Park, Trafalgar Square and Potters Fields Park will become the centre of public celebration during the Olympics.

The Mayor of London, The Royal Parks, and Tower Hamlets Council handed Live Nation the brief which is to create a variety of concerts and cultural performances to showcase London and the UK to the visiting and watching world.

The events will not be publicly financed, with Live Nation gaining funding through hospitality, food and drink concession and merchandising.

"These fantastic sites will mean everyone can soak up the atmosphere and revel in the excitement of this sporting spectacular," said London mayor Boris Johnson.
