Live 8 and Glastonbury prove online hits for BBC

LONDON - The BBC's online coverage of Live 8 generated 14.6m page impressions during its three-day run, the largest volume of traffic yet received on the broadcaster's radio and music websites.

The BBC said that its Live 8 Wap site for mobile phones also performed well, generating 112,000 page impressions over the same three days, in early July.

BBC Glastonbury Interactive coverage was another hit, generating 13.4m page impressions during the fortnight surrounding the festival, according to latest figures for BBC's online traffic.

The latest figures for June show the broadcaster's sports coverage on Radio Five Live was another good performer online, recording 910,841 unique users during June, compared with 840,019 the same period last year.

But while Five Live Sports Extra increased its page impressions from 1,442,915 in June last year to 1,794,421 in June this year, its unique users fell from 203,953 to 161,036 during the same period.

Elsewhere Radio 1, Radio 2, Radio 3, Radio 4, 1Xtra, Asian Network and BBC 7 all increased their unique users from June last year to the same month this year, however 6 Music dropped from 418,729 to 356,564.
