Lego defies recession to post rising profits

LONDON - Lego has announced a 60% rise in net profit for the first half of 2009 as parents turn to classic products during the downturn.

The company said that UK sales rose 20% over the same period, making it the only one of the country's five largest toy manufacturers to post a sales increase.

Lego, which was founded in 1932 in Denmark, estimates that children around the world spend more than five billion hours a year playing with its products.
