Leagas Delaney declines to repitch for Opodo business

LONDON - Leagas Delaney has declined to repitch for online travel firm Opodo's UK advertising account, leaving just Karmarama, HHC/Red Cell and Lowe in the running.

Despite announcing its will not join the race to handle the £2.5m advertising account in the UK, Leagas Delaney has been retained to handle work in Germany.

Leagas Delaney had held Opodo's pan European account since its launch in 2001. It has also handled the firm's UK business since 2002, which included a £3.5m British launch campaign involving television advertising featuring the Iggy Pop track 'Lust For Life' and the line: "Your flights on your terms…and about time too".

The creative review at Opodo is being handled by UK country manager Neil Mott. He joined from EasyJet where he was UK marketing manager.

Opodo launched as a joint venture between nine national air carriers including British Airways and Air France. It operates in France, Germany and the UK, but is planning further European expansion later this year.

Opodo's £5m UK media planning and buying account was awarded to MediaCom in September last year. The account had previously been handled by Carat, which did not repitch.
