Chambers is currently art director on Conde Nast's GQ in the UK, where he has worked for more than 5 years. He has also been working as a consultant for Conde Nast on the Italian version of Glamour and the Italian, South African and Russian editions of GQ. Before that, he was art director of The Sunday Times Magazine.
Chambers joins Wallpaper in December. The appointment is one of the first signs that Langmead, who starts his new job on Monday, aims to ensure that the title retains its image as the ultimate style guide and at the cutting edge of design.
"I have hugely admired Tony Chambers' elegant and innovative work for many years and am thrilled that he will be bringing his immense talent and experience to Wallpaper. His ideas for the magazine are fantastic and I can't wait to see them become a reality," Langmead said.
IPC appointed Langmead as editor of Wallpaper in September. He joined from the Evening Standard, where he ran the lifestyle features desk.
Prior to the Standard, Langmead worked at the Sunday Times. At the Times, Langmead was editor of the Sunday Times Style supplement and edited Nova, IPC's now-defunct relaunch of the 60s women's fashion magazine.
Langmead takes over from Christina Ferrari, founder of US magazine Teen People, who took over when Wallpaper founder Tyler Brule stepped down following management differences with IPC.
Brulee founded Wallpaper in 1996 and it was brought by Time a year later. IPC was taken over by Time parent AOL Time Warner last year and Wallpaper was subsequently moved into the IPC fold along with Time's other UK-based magazine Style.
