News of Langmead's departure comes amid reports that sales of the paper slipped 3% year on year for the January to June period.
It has also been reported that art critic and Evening Standard columnist Brian Sewell is unhappy at the newspaper, as well as other staff.
Langmead has held a raft of fashion and style journalism jobs, including the editorship of the Sunday Times Style magazine between 1995-2000.
His appointment to Wallpaper also marks a return to IPC Media for Langmead. He was editor of the relaunch of 60s style fashion title Nova at IPC Media in 2000. He has also written for titles including Tatler and Elle Decoration.
His appointment will go some way to prove IPC's determination to make a success of Wallpaper, following the ousting of its founder Tyler Brulee earlier this year.
IPC took control of the magazine after it was bought by AOL Time Warner, parent of Wallpaper owner Time Inc. Relations between Brulee and IPC became strained soon after the takeover, largely because of Brulee's flamboyant lifestyle.
IPC took steps to tighten its grip on the magazine and diluted Brule's control over the title by installing Richard Johnstone as publishing director of Wallpaper, the first of a number of management changes at the title.
Brulee was replaced by Christina Ferrari, founder of US magazine Teen People, when he finally left in May. Most recently, IPC poached Dazed & Confused's Christopher Lockwood to become publisher.
