The festival organiser was granted permission for a licence to run the show in the city's Victoria Park .

Live Nation had originally applied for permission for a two-day festival to be held some time in June or July 2014, and has now announced the show will be run as a headline music gig.

Signing up Kasabian – who hail from Leicester – is a major coup for Live Nation, as the show on 21 June 2014 will be the first time the band has played in the UK since a performance at Hard Rock Calling at Queen Elizabeth Park this summer.

Serge Pizzorno, Kasabian guitarist and songwriter, said: "We are hugely honoured to be playing in our home town at such an incredible setting right in the heart of the city. It's a happening we've been planning for years. Summer solstice is coming; set the controls for the heart of the sun."

at the beginning of October, but , who complained of potential noise and anti-social behaviour issues.

However, - helped to quell objectors' fears. Now residents living in local postcodes will have access to tickets on a first-come, first-served basis until 6 December.

Andy Copping, Live Nation's senior vice-president of music, said: "Having worked with Kasabian from the very early days, it has been my dream to stage a really big homecoming show for them."

He added the band is very proud of Leicester – which previously hosted the three-day Summer Sundae festival at De Montfort Hall until last year – and the gig "means more to them than any other show they have ever played".

"Having liaised with the local authority over the last few years to see if it was possible, I am overjoyed that we are finally able to make it happen," said Copping. "I really hope that the people of Leicester will get behind this event and celebrate the success of one of their own."

Up to almost 50,000 music lovers could attend the show next summer, with tickets going on sale from this Friday (29 November).
