are set to be decided at a council licensing panel on Monday (25 November), but organiser Live Nation has met with objectors ahead of the meeting to try to allay fears around the event.

The mediation meeting, held on 18 November at De Montfort Hall, was a chance for Live Nation to calm a wave of anxiety from residents , and attract drug dealers.

A dozen objections to the planned event – which could welcome up to around 50,000 festival-goers in June or July 2014 – were sent to the council during a five-day representation period, as well as a report from the local noise team's manager Robin Marston.

Canon Glynn Richerby, vicar of the adjacent Church of St James the Greater, told Event that although the church was "not against the festival per se", the uncertainty around when exactly it would be held was a "Damocles sword hanging over us".

"We have got events of our own which would be ruled out by the level of noise, such as the classical Charnwood Orchestra, which is already booked to play on 28 June." he explained.

Canon Richerby said he felt the meeting had been useful, as discussion of dates – rather than the current blanket application – had injected more certainty into the proposal for the festival, which could provide an alternative to Leicester's now-defunct Summer Sundae event.

Meanwhile, Event forum member Mag27 said: "It would be great to have this festival in Leicester, now that it has been made clear the very popular Summer Sundae will not happen next year. For a city bidding to be city of culture, it is essential that there are music events that will attract a lot of people and that show we can stage big outdoor music events in the summer."
