Under California law because Stone is one year under the age of consent, 18, her cohabitation could lead to statutory rape charges against Dozier, with media speculation suggesting the situation could also lose her the Gap contract she signed only last month.
Those using internet chat rooms in the US have also voiced their concern at Devon-born Stone's move into Dozier's home in the Los Angeles suburb of Encino. The Daily Mail quotes one mother as saying: "I would not be comfortable with my 17-year-old living with a man of 25."
Music producer Dozier is the son of legendary Motown songwriter Lamont Dozier, whose hits included soul classics such as 'Nowhere to Run', 'Baby Love' and 'Heatwave'.
On signing the deal with Gap, Stone was set to follow in the footsteps of Madonna, Willie Nelson and Mary J Blige for a new campaign, replacing the recent slot featuring Sarah Jessica Parker singing the Rogers and Hammerstein classic 'Enjoy Being a Girl'.
Stone is now a massive star in the US and UK, with her debut album 'Mind, Body and Soul' gaining three Grammy nominations this year. She also won two Brit Awards this year and performed a duet with Robbie Williams at the awards ceremony.
