Jones takes over as Life & Style editor at Evening Standard

LONDON - Former Marie Claire editor Liz Jones is to become editor of the Evening Standard's Life & Style section, replacing Jeremy Langmead who quit the post to become editor-in-chief of IPC Media's style bible Wallpaper.

Jones, who has been freelancing at the Evening Standard for the past year, caused controversy at Marie Claire by highlighting the link between the fashion industry and eating disorders.

It was Jones who famously published the groundbreaking Marie Claire edition that had two front covers -- one of Sophie Dahl when she had a fuller figure, and one of a super-slim Pamela Anderson.

Jones is understood to be planning to raise the profile of Life & Style with similar stunts. However, it is unlikely that she will want Life & Style to suffer the same drop in sales as Marie Claire while she was editor between 1999 and 2001.

During her reign at the title, the magazine's circulation fell by 30,000 copies.

Before editing Marie Claire, Jones spent 10 years at the Sunday Times as deputy editor under Langmead.

During the past year, she has also freelanced for The Observer and The Guardian and has her own column in the Saturday Guardian's Weekend magazine called The Wedding Planner.
