The championship allows amateur players to compete on a professional stage, be filmed by the BBC, and win money for charity at the same time.
Gareth Turner, senior brand manager, John Smith’s, at Heineken UK, said: "The Pub Darts app for the iPhone is a great way for consumers to practise their game in preparation for the John Smith’s People’s Darts Championship, when they have left their arrows at home."
The app, created and developed by marketing agency Steam UK, allows players to interact with each other through iPhone bump technology and social networking. Peoples’ scores are published to a global leader board, as well as Facebook profiles and news feeds.
Darts player Bobby George, said: "Pub Darts is a fantastic app for everyone that enjoys a game of darts. It will help players to develop their scoring strategy and it’s a great way to practise your ‘darts maths’ when you don’t have access to a real board."
