John Lewis Partnership readies greenbee launch

LONDON - John Lewis Partnership is opening its first business since it acquired Waitrose in 1937, with the launch of greenbee, a direct-services company.

The online business will offer a range of greenbee-branded products, including as-yet unspecified home services. The company is launching with two home and travel insurance products; life and pet insurance, travel booking and leisure offerings will follow.

Greenbee is partnering with specialists including Expedia for its travel deals and will compete with ticket vendors in offering tickets to shows and events.

JLP products, including Waitrose broadband, will also be promoted on the greenbee site.

A direct mail campaign, through Clark McKay & Walpole, will promote the launch to JLP's customers, with 4m prospective customers being targeted through an email drive.

John Brown has been appointed to create a customer magazine called Source. The first edition, which features Madonna on the cover, has a print run of 1m.
