The announcement follows Gill Barr's departure from the company as part of a marketing restructure. The direct marketing team will now merge into the brand communications team, which sits alongside creative services, both part of the marketing department. All the marketing department teams will report to Jill Little, the group's merchandise director, who sits on the board.

A spokeswoman for John Lewis said: ‘The role of head of direct marketing is under review. Our relationships with our agencies, including Kitcatt Nohr, are unaffected.'

Kitcatt Nohr Alexander Shaw currently hold the group's direct marketing account.
