ITV1's fashion sisters lose out to Big Brother and Panorama

LONDON - ITV1's Trinny and Susannah were stripped down to 2.7m viewers last night, as 'Big Brother' and 'Panorama' tied for the 9pm-10pm slot with 2.9m, according to unofficial overnight figures.

ITV1 brought back the duo for a second series of the fashion programme 'Trinny and Susannah Undress the Nation' after its Marco Pierre White cookery series concluded last week.

But the Littlewoods Direct-sponsored programme started disappointingly with 2.75m viewers, below the 3m-plus ratings it settled down to in its first series, and a 13.2% share.

The pair were ambushed by a one-two from 'Big Brother' on Channel 4 and 'Panorama' on BBC One, and were almost usurped by 'House of Saddam' on BBC Two.

Channel 4 very nearly got the slot's best ratings by moving 'Big Brother' forward by an hour from its usual 10pm-11pm home.

Almost exactly 2.9m viewers tuned in, giving C4 a 14% share, with a further 514,000 watching later on Channel 4+1. The show was marked by the decision of Maysoon to leave the house, with C4 pledging to refund those who voted to evict her tomorrow. The muslim model has previously appeared in a Lynx deodorant ad.

BBC One's 'Panaroma', which looked at the world of horseracing betting six years after its award-winning expose of corruption in the sport, edged it with 2.94m viewers and a share of 14.1%.

Also claiming its fair share of the ratings spoils was 'House of Saddam' BBC Two's new four-part drama about the rise and fall of the Iraqi dictator.

Its 9pm-10pm run drew an audience of 2.7m and a 13.1% share of viewing.

Five lagged with 747,000 viewers and a 3.5% share for 'Lifesavers', a documentary following the medical experts who travel across the country retrieving and delivering donated organs for transplants.
