According to reports, the new show is likely to return to a Saturday night slot, as with the previous two series of 'Popstars', but it may not be seen until the spring of 2005.
Until then, reality pop fans will have to be content with ITV's new talent show, 'X Factor', created by Simon Cowell, after the broadcaster decided to give the 'Pop Idol' format a rest this year.
There have already been two series of 'Popstars'. The first spawned the now defunct Hear'Say and Liberty X, while the second series, 'Popstars: the Rivals' gave us the girl band Girls Aloud and the boy band One True Voice, who have already split up.
'Popstars: Boy Meets Girl' is searching for a "sexually charged pairing", according to reports. There is speculation that former Spice Girl Mel B will be one of the judges, along with Louis Walsh, who appeared on the last series.
However, the involvement of Pete Waterman is not guaranteed. The record producer is said to be disillusioned with television talent search programmes after Michelle McManus won the most recent series of 'Pop Idol'.
ITV has not yet confirmed presenters or when the show will air.
