Fox made the comments speaking to the Daily Star, saying that the programme will be back early next year.
There have been reports that ITV wants to give the series a rest for a year with Cowell, who has been busy with 'American Idol', reluctant to sign on and hosts Ant and Dec also debating their future with the programme.
There was a two-year gap between the first series of 'Pop Idol', won by Will Young three years ago, and last year's series, which saw Glaswegian Michelle McManus walk away as the unlikely winner.
The third series of 'American Idol' has just ended, with Fantasia Barrino being chosen by the public as the winner. It continued to rate extremely well for the Fox network, which spiced up the format with the inclusion of guest judges such as Quentin Tarantino and Sir Elton John.
While the UK series has drawn in massive audiences and is a boon for ITV and its advertisers, there are there are questions about the value that the series really holds -- at least for music fans.
According to Fox: "'Pop Idol' is ideal for finding new talent. Just look at Will Young, he is still around three years on from winning the competition. We need another one like him."
But career longevity is hardly a given for the contestants, with rumours that Gareth Gates has been dropped by his record label and nary a word about Michelle McManus of late. Worst of all, there are reports that Will Young is about to duet with former Spice Girl Emma Bunton.
In the US, one series, screened on MTV, dared to take the format to its logical conclusion. In 'Making the Band 2', a group of young stars who had been chosen to appear in a group called Da Band, were followed as the dream began to disintegrate, ending with their boss, P Diddy, being forced to fire them after slumping record sales and increasingly erratic behaviour.
