ITN Source launches on-demand download service

LONDON - ITN Source, the archive division of ITN, has launched what it claims is the world's largest collection of on-demand broadcast-quality video clips, housing content that spans news, history, entertainment and wildlife.

The Clips on Demand service, aimed at organisations wanting to use the content for editorial or commercial use, offers instant usage rights to more than 500,000 clips.

Content was previously available to search and view online via www.itnsource.com, but was not downloadable and had to be sent in physical formats such as video cassette and digital video.

ITN Source is eager to grow sales of its content beyond broadcast media and into the advertising and internal communications markets. With Clips on Demand, customers can buy copyright for broadcast, online, retail, advertising, internal communications and education use. They can also select single country or global usage licences.

The Clips on Demand interface enables users to search, browse, select, pay for and download content at any time of the day. Customers using the new service will receive a 30% discount off conventional prices.

ITN source said that more clips will be added to the service every minute of every day as new content becomes available, from ITN Source's content partners including ITN, Reuters, Fox Movitone, Setanta Sports News and UTV.

In June, Al Jazeera signed a five-year deal to gain access to ITN Source's library (Media Week, 24 June).
