Al Jazeera in five-year deal with ITN Source

LONDON - International news channel Al Jazeera has signed a five-year deal to secure unlimited access to archive provider ITN Source's library.

The six-figure deal covers unlimited global broadcast rights across ITN's television and online outlets. The deal also allows independent production companies making programmes for Al Jazeera full access to the ITN archive.

In securing the deal, the Middle East-based news network now has access to the world's largest moving image library, which carries more than 800,000 hours and covering three centuries.

ITN Source represents a range of libraries including ITN, Reuters, Fox News and British Pathe´, along with other specialist collections.

The libraries are accessed through a website that allows subscribers to search for, view, download and purchase footage.

Tony Burman (pictured), managing director of Al Jazeera Europe, explained that the deal allowed it to plan its production budgets more effectively and would add grater value to its programming.
