IPC launches £1m ad push for In Style

LONDON - IPC Media is to launch a £1m advertising campaign to help boost sales of the UK edition of fashion and lifestyle title In Style.

In Style has so far failed to make its mark in the competitive UK women's magazine sector, despite its success in the US.

In the last set of ABCs, In Style had a circulation of 151,159 in a market dominated by circulation heavyweights such as sister title Marie Claire and Emap's New Woman, which recorded 382,094 and 305,088 respectively.

The drive, through Walsh Trott Chick Smith, focuses on the theme "Your own personal stylist" and aims to attract ABC1 women aged 25-44 to the title. The campaign will run between August and December.

The campaign will run across press and underground, which will support 30-second TV ads on E4 and ITV in London.

The magazine was launched in the UK by AOL Time Warner in 2000. It was brought under IPC's control when the media and internet giant brought the UK publisher last year.

Helen Farquhar, marketing director of IPC Southbank, said: "This is a major step change in the way we are now supporting In Style in the UK, since it moved from parent company Time Inc to become part of the IPC Southbank portfolio earlier this year.

"Alongside new editor Louise Chunn, we have great plans for this title and we are aiming to drive consistent sales growth for this exciting brand."

In Style has some way to go before it reaches the giddy heights of success that its US sister title enjoys as one of the top-selling US women's magazines.

At the top of the pile of the UK women's sector, Cosmopolitan has an ABC circulation of 463,010 and Glamour, in second place, has 436,579.
