IHG announced a $1bn revamp of its 2,500 Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express brands in October 2007, with each hotel to receive the new look by the end of this year. But according to reports, IHG has allowed a further 12 months to complete the project.

IHG's Owners' Association has claimed that the company has reduced the ambition of the project, in particular plans to put flat-screen TVs in each Holiday Inn room.

Elsewhere, it has been revealed that IHG is to review its £80m global media planning and buying account. Carat currently handles the media for IHG's three major brands in Europe: Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Express by Holiday Inn.
