Ruthanne Reid, commercial director of web-based media company INAA Systems and co-organiser of the event, took to the stage to speak to the audience after an award was presented. Video footage, which has gone viral over the internet, then appears to show her storm down the catwalk and hit a delegate with her handbag.
The scuffle came after another delegate ran on to the stage and exposed her backside to Reid. Police were called to the event, however no arrests were made.
Reid has since issued a statement to attendees apologising for the failure of the event. She said: "I am writing to express my sincerest apologies for my insensitive actions and behaviour on Sunday evening.
"I will of course accept that I have caused irreparable damage and have therefore resigned from the INAA."
Joanne Reid, co-founder of the awards, told Event: "We have received over 400 emails from salons who thoroughly enjoyed the night and we may consider doing them again next year.
"We were a small team of three people who worked six long months to put on the awards whilst running our online business at the same time. I am only sorry what happened at the end of the night has out-shadowed what was a really good night."
The £105-per-ticket event was held at the Thistle Hostel in Glasgow and was attended by Coronation Street actress Michelle Keegan, The Only Way is Essex personality Mark Wright and Lord Provost of Glasgow.
INAA Systems, which provides an online booking service for the hair and beauty sector, has closed its Twitter and Facebook accounts following the event.
