What does your job involve?
I lead the content team that finds funny people and funny programmes for a funny channel. I also work on developing a strategy for maximising revenue to the company through our content business - not so funny.  Basically, anything that's not an ad or a promo on any of our platforms will have come through us.

What's it like working at Comedy Central?
It's a brilliantly lively place, with a really talented, close-knit team who work fantastically well together. It is professional but friendly and the success of the channels can only be down to how well everyone pulls together across departments.

What qualifications and experience do you need?
To do my job, you need an odd mix of proven editorial instinct, sharp negotiating skills, knowledge of television as both broadcaster and business, and the ability to talk to anyone easily.

How do you spend a typical day?
No two days are the same, but it always involves talking about telly, ratings and funny people, which is great. It can also often involve a lot of number crunching, but I try and drink to blot those days out.

What's the best thing about your job?
Probably the fact that I am mainly talking about, or working on, something that I love. I'm a nerd when it comes to comedy and I can't imagine having to do a job where you aren't passionate about what you're doing; this makes even the hardest days bearable.

And the worst?
The rollercoaster activity of negotiations - as quickly as you have a high, you can have a massive low. This drama is very ageing.

What keeps you awake at night?
I often worry about dying from insomnia.

Who helped you get where you are today?

Eric Cartman. Everyone is very kind about the fact that I bought South Park for the channel; it's still masking a few not-so-brilliant ideas since.

Who do you aspire to be like?
American comedian Sarah Silverman. She can be far ruder than I'd ever imagined possible.
