The News Corp, Walt Disney and NBC Universal-owned video aggregator will launch Hulu Plus, which will charge subscribers $9.99 (£6.58) for a more comprehensive service, that will include access to entire series of programming, including hits such as 'Glee' and the US version of 'The Office'.

The international service looks set to be available on several platforms, including the iPhone, iPad, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It is only currently available in the US, launching two weeks ago as a beta service.

However, the new Hulu Plus offering is already attracting criticism in the US, as the paid-for premium service still contains advertising.

In the UK, Hulu Plus would challenge rivals including Arqiva's See Saw’s online rental service, and TV aggregators online, such as MSN Video, Yahoo TV and AOL’s television offering.

Last summer, ITV was reported to be close to signing a content and commercial deal with Hulu.

Reports at the time said that Hulu offered ITV an equity stake, understood to be 25%, in the UK venture. Although the proposed deal has gone quiet, there are still believed to be options to reignite it.

However, ITV previously said it has "no plans" to strike a deal with the US online video provider, as it is currently concentrating on boosting its own ITV.com service.

Hulu is the number-two online video website in the US, after YouTube.
